Bluming Travelers

Departure – (August 29)

Finally the day is here! We woke up early, finished packing up our bags as needed and making sure we had everything for our 3 month and 3 week trip.

David’s bag ended up at 21.5 lbs and Caitlyn’s at 34.5 lbs full of everything we need for our trip!

We arrived with 3 hours or so to spare.  We instantly noticed that the airport was as empty as we had ever seen it!  No line for check-in, baggage, or security!  We got to our gate early and decided to grab a breakfast and a beer to celebrate.  We settled on Chick-Fil-A because David has been really wanting to try the new spicy chicken biscuit and we grabbed a beers while we waited for our flight time.

We upgraded to “premium plus” seats, which gave enough leg room for even David to kick up his legs out all of the way.  The seats were huge with multiple chargers per seat, a tray, a pop-out TV, amenities like a sleep kit and free noise-cancelling headphones, and a Sachs Fifth Avenue pillow and blanket.  The flight was not very crowded either and we quickly settled in for a very comfortable ride.

The flight attendants were wonderful! They were so excited to hear about our trip, and gave us drinks that are reserved for first class only, like a few glasses of champagne to “start the party” as flight attendant Kay said. Our premium plus upgrade came with complementary drinks and upgraded food, though.

We watched the Whale (which we both thought was unexpectedly incredible) and Dune (David thought it was pretty good, Caitlyn loved it) together.  We shared a veggie noodle with curry sauce and a BBQ chicken with yams and sautéed collard(???) greens for brunch.  Caitlyn later had a basil tomato mozzarella sandwich for dinner and we munched on some delicious snacks throughout the flight.  Neither of us slept much. Maybe 2 or 3 hrs total over multiple periods of a 14 hr flight.
