Bluming Travelers

Day 56- (October 24)

Unfortunately, due to the early times (though fortunately due to the much cooler temperature) we had another 6:00am cruise today.  We had a new guide today, as Marty was heading back to the city.  The guide was Paul, the man who was our guide and announcer on the bus down here.

On the ride, Caitlyn spotted an ENORMOUS crocodile which must have been at least 12-15 feet long.  We saw a lot of proboscis and macaque Monkeys as well on this boat cruise.

After the boat, we had breakfast and didn’t have anything scheduled until the 4:00 afternoon cruise.  David elected to nap while Caitlyn watched a Borneo documentary and worked on the blog in a public area.

We met back up for lunch, and then David went back to his nap cave while Caitlyn and Laura walked around.

It turns out Caitlym has a great eye for animals, as she spotted an orangutan in a nest while hanging on the nature walk!  She texted David to come see it, and he left his slumber to appreciate what is apparently extraordinary rare for over an hour.  The orangutan eventually began making angry noises and snapping branches.

Lee told us it was a new orangutan not familiar with the lodge and humans and was trying to show off.  After this we went to the gift shop, where we bought a sarong (traditional skirt/lower limb clothing) for our Borneo souvenier as well as other souveniers for family, some T-shirts, and purchased our own telescope for less than $10 for later use!

The next activity was the 4pm afternoon cruise.  We were very frustrated on this cruise as Paul kept stopping for proboscis and macaque monkeys over and over.  Additionally, he didn’t do a good job stopping the boat in a good place and frequently we had to stand up to even see the animals, as well as staying way too long for people to take pictures of a very common animal.  We saw nothing new or exciting and really didn’t have a great time on this ride.  We had forgiven Paul some as he had said he was a guide in training on the bus, but we mentioned this to him and he said that it was a joke and he was not in training.

Back at the lodge, we went to the bar for a drink to drown our disappointment.  At the bar was a middle aged couple that we got in conversation with.  It turns out they were from America but lived in Singapore for the past few years.  We talked with them for a while before they went back to their room.  Just before heading to dinner, it started pouring.  We had to cross a long walkway, but thankfully they had tons of large umbrellas to make this a dry journey.  We ate dinner and were told that there was no night cruise today due to the rain.

The three of us stayed at dinner late, trying to figure out the hotel situation for our first stop in Bali Indonesia.  We headed back to room to pack and then went to bed
